Zaidi shared with the members of KCCI the thinking and circumstances, which led him to launch the initiative and believed that apart from the other factors, the "call of conscience" drove him to embark upon this project as it is his responsibility after being elected from the city. Zaidi said that the drive is comprised of two phases.
First cleaning the storm water drains, which has been done and second to lift the garbage, which has been started with the moto "Name & Shame". "Whoever is seen throwing the garbage should be video recorded and the clip should be viral on social media to get the person realized about his/her wrongdoing", he said.
Minister said that he has decided to show everyone a clean Karachi and vowed to do this job come what may. He said that he has been working with Mayor Karachi and district municipal administrations of the city to make the city clean apart from the federal institutions.
About the monetary contributions for the drive, Zaidi said that more than Rs 80 million has been received so far in the dedicated account of the drive and said that federal departments falling in the domain of his ministry i.e. Karachi Port Trust (KPT) and Port Qasim has been on the forefront of "Clean Karachi" initiative.
Federal minister revealed that KPT is working to set up a waste water treatment plant of 150MGW capacity to utilize it for watering of parks and gardens. He said that sewerage water and garbage finding its way into sea are posing serious threat to maritime trade and said that it would damage the port operations badly if the situation was not put under control.
Zaidi emphasized on all stakeholders of the city to come forward and own the city, which has been neglected over the decades. Siraj Qasim Teli, former President KCCI announced that KCCI would donate Rs 10 million in "Clean Karachi" drive and said chamber would extend all out help in this regard to the efforts of federal government.
